CES 2010: Tatsunoko vs. Capcom FightStick for Wii Announced
Mad Catz brings its popular fighting game peripheral to the Wii.
January 5, 2010 - If you're looking forward to picking up Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All Stars for Wii, you've probably already noticed a severe lack of fighting stick controllers for Wii. To fill the void, Mad Catz is bringing their popular FightStick series to the Wii with the new Tatsunoko vs. Capcom Arcade FightStick. The new FightStick will be the first of the company's fighting stick controller line available for the Nintendo Wii and will feature licensed artwork from Japanese artist Shinkiro and will incorporate all of the major functions of its Xbox 360 and PS3 brethren.

Obrazek
Features include a dual-speed turbo functionality, LED indicators, eight-button arcade configurations and an integrated D-Pad. The Tatsunoko vs. Capcom Arcade FightStick will also include a locking switch, Wii Home button, and right and left stick alternating switch. The Tatsunoko vs. Capcom Arcade FightStick will also be the company's first wireless FightStick…kind of. Like other Wii peripherals, the Tatsunoko vs. Capcom stick can tether to a Wiimote.

Obrazek
The Tatsunoko vs. Capcom Arcade FightStick from Mad Catz will arrive in stores later this month. Pricing information has not been announced.

SEGA talks Mature Wii game sales, thinks Nintendo could help out with supporting Mature games
G: With this type of volume for MadWorld, you feel you have reached all the target gamer for the Wii?

JR: With MadWorld, we believe we have struck a good portion of the target. Take into account that this is a good enough "type", and if you take the number of people interested in the action game gore or horror, it is in the absolute a small population, and this, beyond the issue of platform. It is not as unifying a party game or even a FPS, for example. Therefore, we believe we have made "full", even though the margin of increase is still possible.

G: But when the volume of games for the general public are four times higher than those of your tracks gamers, it should still make you think?

Then there is an ability to adapt what has been done among the general public on concepts more "gamer". However, Sega has been a big player on mature products on the Wii, Electronic Arts also Capcom also ...but not Nintendo. And maybe they could have been a good spokesman for this market. Nintendo has supported us on MadWorld for the French market, and in all territories, but perhaps in a "hidden." Nintendo is consumer products, with a PEGI 3 + and 7 +, but they never joined the game world mature. For this, they pass by outside publishers. They are not in front, and to support this type of games. If they threw in the game mature tomorrow, with an advertising campaign on television, maybe they would increase the market. For it is a very big ticket, on which we, the editors are not all willing to invest. Perhaps where Nintendo can make more money.

Capcom plans less support but higher quality for Wii in 2010, bashes SEGA Wii titles
"In 2010, you won't see as many Wii games from Capcom, but the ones we release will be much larger, event-size games. I also expect to see the market dominated more and more by Nintendo releases with fewer games from the major third parties, like EA, Activision, and Ubisoft. Instead, it's a case of the third-party publishers trying to figure out how they can make a return on their investment and maintain profitability. (said in a joking manner) Maybe the secret is for all of us just to adopt a Sega model -- and just stick Mario into every game we make." - Chris Kramer, Capcom senior director of communications and community

Could Konami be working on a compilation of Castlevania games for the Wii? If rumors are to be believed, that could indeed be the case.

Endless Ocean 2 hits Europe on Feb. 5th
Enter into a new marine adventure as you explore uncharted underwater realms brought beautifully to life in the stunningly realistic Endless Ocean 2: Adventures of the Deep, which launches on Wii across Europe on 5 February 2010.

Endless Ocean 2: Adventures of the Deep offers six new ocean locations to explore. Plunge into the icy Arctic waters or explore the sunken wrecks in the Aegean Sea and, for the first time, venture into rivers such as the mysterious Brazilian Amazon to discover a vast array of freshwater wildlife. You can even step ashore onto dry land to encounter birds and other non-aquatic wildlife.

Your diving missions will include helping maintain coral reefs, riding on dolphins and swimming with humpback whales. You will be equipped with new tools to aid in your encounters. The Pulsar gun will be required to repel any unexpected encounters with predators of the deep, but will also allow you to heal any sick creatures you may discover on your quest.

As well as enjoying the mesmeric and relaxing underwater scenery, you can locate precious artefacts using your Treasure Detector, act as a diving escort and take photographs for nature magazines - building your diving skills and opening up new challenges as you go. As you explore, you can complete missions and solve mysteries before moving on to a new area.

The game offers single and multiplayer modes and via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection you can link to another player’s Wii and explore each other’s oceans and rivers. Using Wii Speak, you can share your encounters, marine missions and swim with your fellow explorers.

With its realistic and beautiful graphics, Endless Ocean 2: Adventures of the Deep offers a whole new world of discovery, and launches across Europe for Wii on 5 February 2010.

Could Vanillaware be teasing their next game?
Above you see a cropped image from a larger piece of art called “The Three Graces”. This painting was done by Vanillaware founder and president George Kamitani, and it involves the Greek and Roman goddesses of charm and beauty. We can't show you the full painting here, because it's a tad...umm...nude. With that said, this glimpse into the mind of Mr. Kamitani may very well be a hint towards the company's next game. Let's hope we find out sooner rather than later.

Capcom - Dead Rising: CTYD sold 'okay', another 'demake-esque' game on the way
The following comments come from Capcom's Seth Killian...

“I’m preaching to the choir on this one, but Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop definitely got a bad rap. If you stop counting the number of zombies on the screen and just play, you’ll have some fun. People couldn’t help comparing it to the X360 game, which I can understand, but it did okay at retail, so I’d put this in a grey area.”

Mr, Killian also teased another old-school style game, something that was more in the style of Mega Man 10 or Dark Void Zero...

“... happy to say there’s something else distinctly demake-esque coming soon. Of course, there’s also Mega Man 10, which isn’t so much a demake as a straight up high-five to the joys of classic gaming...”

Zelda Wii has been in development for a long time
While this might not be the freshest news out of the box, we here at Destructoid had not brought this little tidbit of information to you, the readers, attention yet. While running down what we know about Zelda Wii so far Zelda Informer listed the fact that the game had been in development for going on five years. That's before Twilight Princess launched and, if true, makes this Zelda have the longest development time in the series since Ocarina. We all know how well that turned out.

The information comes from an old copy of Game Informer, which came out in January of 2007. In the pages the magazine mentioned that a Zelda game specifically for the Wii has been in development for a year already. That means if it comes out at the end of this year it will have had around five years of development time and if it lands in 2011 it will be nearing six. With a development cycle like this and all the talk about change in the series we might be seeing a brand new take on Zelda come this Christmas (please, please, please).

Bardzo dobra wiadomość !!!
Madworld 2 coming to Wii?
Platinum would be interested in making a sequel...
The director of Madworld has told ONM that he'd be interested in making a sequel to his violent Wii game.

In an exclusive interview that will appear in the new issue of Official Nintendo Magazine which goes on sale on Friday 15 January, Platinum's Shigenori Nishikawa said "I think MadWorld was very well received and was acknowledged for its innovative graphical style and gameplay. We would definitely be interested in making a sequel in the future."

Nishikawa clearly doesn't see a problem with making another mature game on Wii, a console he describes as "a very well-balanced piece of hardware."

You can read the full interview - which includes Nishikawa's opinion on violence in videogames - in the new issue of the magazine.

Would you like to play a Madworld sequel? Let us know by commenting below...

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars Review
Here comes a new challenger!
Closing Comments
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is an amazing win for not only Wii, but the worldwide audience overall. As I consider it to be the true successor of Marvel vs. Capcom 2, TVC melds a few classic Capcom characters with an otherwise totally unknown roster and still manages to make a fighter that can pull anyone in within a matter of moments. The gameplay is simple enough for a fighting game newbie, but deep enough for seasoned brawlers to really sink their teeth into and enjoy.

There are a few inherent downsides to the experience, including the fact that half the roster is entirely unknown outside of Japan, and there’s always the issue of TVC being “too casual” or “too hardcore” for certain people. But when it comes to taking the tried and true Vs. formula that Capcom has continued over the years and making something truly unique and captivating for the Wii crowd, I say "mission accomplished."

The roster is extremely diverse, there’s plenty of content to unlock (most of which was never found in the Japanese version), and the core gameplay is just downright fun. I may be in the minority, but I’d take a few rounds of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom over Street Fighter IV any day. It’s no wonder 360 and PS3 fans are begging for the game to see a multi-console version, as Ultimate All-Stars is a true gem worthy of the Capcom fighting legacy.

9.0 Presentation
You’ll find a huge list of modes, new fighters exclusive to the U.S. version, a competent online offering and a beautifully created Vs. experience bursting with style.
9.0 Graphics
One of the most visually impressive games on the system, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom raises the bar on animation, polish, effects and style.
9.0 Sound
Both English and Japanese voice tracks are included, and the overall audio production is impressive. Sound effects, voice work, and music all set the tone wonderfully.
9.0 Gameplay
Simple enough for newcomers, but deep enough for the hardcore fighting fans. The roster is well balanced for the most part, and there’s plenty of depth to be found.
9.0 Lasting Appeal
The inclusion of new characters, a new bonus game, as well as a full-featured online mode assures that you’ll be coming back again and again.
9.0 Outstanding OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average) See All Award Recipients

RN: There are a whole lot of properties that I would like to work with, a whole lot of game developers I'd like to work with in America. I'd love to do something with Nintendo maybe, or Square Enix, maybe do something with them. That would be pretty cool.

Wii Motion Plus Exclusive Zelda Playable at E3
Producer provides a few hints about mysterious Wii sequel.
Recent reports of a 2010 release for the next Wii Zelda game are in question. But it seems that there's one thing Zelda fans can look forward to for sure. Someone is going to be playing the new game this year.

In an interview with Famitsu this week, Nintendo producer Eiji Aonuma said that he hopes to have the game in a playable state with all its core elements in place in time for E3.

"I'd like to show something playable," said Aonuma when pressed on the possibility of a playable showing at the June trade show.

Aonuma also hinted that the game could reach the masses before the end of the year. He claimed that, due to fan anticipation, he's been pushing the staff towards a release. When pressed again by Famitsu, however, he would only say "We'll work hard in order to get you playing it as soon as possible."

Development appears to be progressing smoothly on the game. "We've progressed in development since last year," said Aonuma. "At present, the core areas have come into clear view."

Wii Motion Plus will feature heavily in the new Zelda game. In fact, Aonuma told Famitsu that the game will be Wii Motion Plus exclusive. This was actually an area that was under debate at the outset of development. "After actually making it compatible," said Aonuma, "it just feels so natural. Link's sword and the controller that you're holding become one."

[Update: Some readers have pointed out to me the Motion Plus requiement was previously announced. Silly me for believing the stuff Famitsu highlights in red is actually new.]

Asked if there will be gameplay that emphasizes the ability to freely swing your sword, Aonuma responded with an "Of course." He also hinted that the way you fight enemies could be the key to solving some puzzles.

Elsewhere in the interview, Aonuma reflected back on 2009, a year that saw the release of Zelda Spirit Tracks, on which he served as producer. In Japan, the game made it out a few days before Christmas. However, it was almost a Spring 2010 title. Early in development, the staff believed they'd need the additional time. E3 came around and the game had all the fundamentals in place, and not wanting to overlap with Wii's Zelda, Aonuma pressed the staff for a release at the end of the year.

Let's hope his influence over the staff is as strong for the Wii Zelda sequel this year.

Miyamoto working on MotionPlus game, reconfirms new hardware, inspired by hamsters for Super Mario Galaxy?!
Last week, we told you guys that Shigeru Miyamoto received the lifetime achievement award at the 13th Annual Japan Media Arts Festival. When Miyamoto took the stage to give his speech, he let loose with a few more details on all sorts of topics.

- Miyamoto said that he's working on a new game that includes MotionPlus support. It was said that this game is separate from Zelda Wii.

- Miyamoto once again stated that Nintendo was working on new hardware, but left the comments at that very basic level.

- Miyamoto discussed the topic of caring for a hamster at one point in his life, which really helped him to come up with the ideas present in Super Mario Galaxy. The free movement of the hamster helped Miyamoto realize the movement of Mario in 3d space.

- Miyamoto believes that other developers could do an online New Super Mario Bros. Wii better than he could.

- Miyamoto's focus on games will be aimed at players that are located next to one another

Zangeki no Reginleiv - more details
- multiple settings were considered, each with a different main character: medieval Japan (with a samurai main character) and modern day (starring a high school boy)
- Scandinavian mythology was chosen over Greek due to most consumers not having a preset notion of what the creatures and gods should look like
- a lot of trial/error was involved in creating characters, which would sometimes lead to motion capture being completed before a character design was done
- the giants took a very long time to create
- Sandlot found it very difficult to create a game using a natural setting instead of a city setting
- the script is more than 10 centimeters thick
- over an hour of cut-scenes
- the giants will come after you even if they lose both legs...they'll crawl towards you
- increasing difficulty impacts strength and A.I. of the enemies
- NPCs react differently to each situation, sometimes yelling out different things depending on their proximity to enemies
- voice recording lasted 3 months
- Nintendo requested Classic Controller and Wifi play, with Iwata himself asking for MotionPlus support
- the dev team originally planned 100 weapons, but ended up with 300 by the time development was over
- Sandlot tried removing elements to lessen the age rating, but felt that the gameplay was being detracted from
- The final decision was to keep the violence level because it fit well with the setting and characters

Level-5 working on unannounced Wii title/titles
Have you been wondering what Level-5 is up to? Well, Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino has spilled the beans on what keeps the company busy...sort of. During a recent Level-5 event, Mr. Hino admitted that the team is indeed working on unannounced Wii projects. The thing is, Mr. Hino could be talking about Inazuma Eleven Break, which we've been pegging as a Wii release for a long time now. Level-5 never actually said what platform the game would land on, so this could end up being that 'unannounced' title.
